Fruit Fly Treatments
Why Fruit Fly Treatments Carry a 14-Day Warranty
1. Fruit flies are source-driven, not structure-driven
Unlike ants, roaches, or rodents, fruit flies are tied to active breeding sources, not just entry points.
Overripe produce
Trash chutes & dumpsters
Drains with organic buildup
Beverage lines, floor drains, mop sinks
Forgotten food sources inside units
➡️ If the source reappears or is reintroduced, flies will return — even after a proper treatment.
2. Their life cycle is extremely fast
Fruit flies can go from egg → adult in 7–10 days.
That means:
A 14-day window covers a full life cycle
If treatment + sanitation worked, activity should stop inside that period
Activity after 14 days usually indicates new breeding, not treatment failure
➡️ A 30-day warranty would cover new infestations, which we can’t control.
3. Treatments rely heavily on client compliance
Fruit fly control is 50% treatment / 50% sanitation.
We can:
Treat drains
Apply bio-foam or enzyme cleaners
Reduce adult populations
But we cannot control:
Produce left out
Trash not removed daily
Floor drains not maintained
Tenants bringing in new food sources
➡️ A shorter warranty keeps responsibility shared and realistic.
4. Drain flies & fruit flies are often misidentified
Many callbacks labeled “fruit flies” turn out to be:
Drain flies
Fungus gnats
Phorid flies
Each requires different control methods.
➡️ The 14-day window allows us to:
Confirm correct identification
Adjust treatment if misidentified
Avoid open-ended warranties for the wrong pest
5. Fruit fly pressure often comes from outside the treated unit
Especially in:
Multi-unit buildings
Restaurants
Mixed-use properties
Fruit flies can migrate from:
Adjacent units
Common drains
Shared trash areas
➡️ A 30-day warranty would unfairly hold us responsible for building-wide issues outside our treatment scope.
6. Industry standard supports limited warranties
Most professional pest companies:
Offer no warranty on flying insects
Or cap it at 7–14 days
Our 14-day warranty is actually:
✔ Reasonable
✔ Defensible
✔ Competitive
How Kenny & Christine Should Explain It (Simple Script)
“Fruit flies reproduce very quickly and are tied to active food and moisture sources. Our 14-day warranty covers a full life cycle, which allows us to confirm the treatment worked. Activity beyond that usually means a new source has been introduced, not that the treatment failed.”
If pushed:
“Unlike ants or roaches, fruit flies aren’t structural pests, so longer warranties would cover new infestations we can’t control. That’s why the industry standard is 7–14 days.”
Internal Rule of Thumb (For Staff)
14 days = treatment validation
30 days = ongoing sanitation management (not pest control)
